Mayapo

If you want to learn or practice Kitesurf in Colombia you have to visit la Guajira. The beaches of Mayapo are located 25 km from Riohacha. The extensive white sanded beach is perfect for riding, foil and long Downwinders. Our Kite Station is situated directly at the beach. You can stay in accommodations right behind the school or in a hostal or hotel in Riohacha. The beach of Mayapo is far away from mass tourism and very quiet, clean and relaxing.

In the mornings we often have Side-Offshore East wind that changes around 10am-02pm to Side Onshore North East Wind.

We started the first Kiteboarding School in Mayapo in 2017. After moving to Riohacha we found this beautiful huge white sanded beach that is perfect for lessons and riding with constant Side Onshore Wind.

Punta Gallinas

Punta Gallinas is the northernmost point of South America. It is situated in the department of the Guajira and populated by the indigenous people Wayuu. Punta Gallinas offers a spectacular landscape with sand dunes, a huge flat water bay perfect for Freestyle and Downwinders, small islands you can kite through and a huge flamingo population. Here you can enjoy the most delicious and fresh seafood right out of the Atlantic Ocean.

For more than 10 years we organize Kite Trips and Kite Safaris to Punta Gallinas. We spend quite some time up there riding in the different spots, teaching how to ride to locals and clients and share our evenings with our friends from Luzmila’s.

Cabo de la Vela

Cabo de la Vela offers a unique semidesertical landscape with beautiful beaches and an interesting cultural background thanks to the indigenous group of the Wayuu that lives here. The shallow bay with flat water is the perfect place to start or advance in this exiting sport. Daily fresh seafood and moto-taxi trips to the most beautiful beaches are just some of the great things you can enjoy here.

We opened the first Kiteboarding school in La Guajira in 2011. We arrived at Cabo de la Vela, a town in nowhere, in the middle of the desert. The beginning was hard, tourists only arrived in the high seasons, until people found out that it was the perfect place to practice Kiteboarding. The sport attracted a lot of attention to the young people of the Cape. We first started teaching Nelson, a Wayuu boy who has 10 siblings. They continued with their brother, cousins, friends, sister… This boy is now 20 years old and owns his own kite school together with his brother Adalberto. Adalberto is part of the foundation and thanks to the support of many friends and clients we were able to send him to China to qualify for the Olympic Games. From fishing and crafts, these young people became the protagonists of their lives and their future with greater opportunities and a more open world view. Cabo de la Vela changed in our time there from 0 to 5 Kite schools and constant and sustainable tourism throughout the year.

Riohacha

The capital of the department la Guajira, Riohacha, has the most beautiful city beach of Colombia. The city counts with more than 2,5 km of white sanded beach.

In the mornings we often have Side-Offshore East wind that changes around 12am-02pm to Side Onshore North East Wind.

The waves are bigger than in Mayapo and the wind starts a bit later.

We started a Kiteboarding school and shop in Riohacha in 2017. Because of the pandemic we had to close our shop here and decided to concentrate our efforts in our beach station in Mayapo. BUT we still have big plans for Riohacha and will be back!
